One of the Biggest Mistakes Property Owners Make After Damage

Over the years, I’ve seen a common pattern.
A property owner has water damage, storm damage, or a roof leak. They report the claim, answer a few questions, let the insurance company inspect, and assume everything will work itself out.

Then a few weeks later, they call me and say:

“I think something went wrong.”

Sometimes the claim was denied. Sometimes it was underpaid. Sometimes important damages were never documented in the first place.
The difficult part is that by the time we get involved, a lot has already happened.

The claim has been reported.
Statements may have been given.
Inspections have occurred.
Positions have already been taken.

Can we still help? Sometimes, yes.
But it’s often easier to address issues before the claim reaches that point.

I tell property owners all the time:
The first few days after damage are important.

Take photos.
Keep records.
Save invoices.

Document conversations.

And if you’re unsure about something, ask questions before making assumptions.
That doesn’t mean every claim needs a public adjuster.

Many claims are handled properly.
But understanding your options early can help you avoid surprises later.

At Valor Public Adjusters, we help property owners with new, underpaid, and denied claims. Whether you’re dealing with water damage, storm damage, fire damage, or simply aren’t sure what to do next, getting guidance early can make a difference.
